Desafío completado. Pude solucionar el tema de los fondos del body que hacían que la pantalla se vea más ancha, aunque no se si fue la forma más fácil de hacerlo. Primera vez utilizando position relative y absolute para posicionar imágenes. Cualquier sugerencia, será bienvenida. Gracias.
