Setting Up Your Profile

Once you've unlocked your Talent Profile, you can start building out your professional presence. Your profile is split into four sections: Bio, Background, Featured Projects, and Work Preferences. All four must be completed before you can set yourself as available to recruiters.

Bio

The Bio section introduces you to recruiters. It covers the basics of who you are and how you communicate.

Name and Location

Your name and location are both required. Location uses a search-powered lookup, so start typing your city or region and select from the suggestions.

Languages

Add at least one language you'd be comfortable communicating in with colleagues. You can select from a list of over 180 languages.

Insights

Insights are structured prompts that give recruiters a quick read on who you are. Instead of a freeform bio, you choose from a set of prompt questions and write short responses.

  • You must complete at least 3 insights
  • Each response must be between 40 and 200 characters
  • Exactly 1 insight must be marked as featured — this is the one highlighted on your profile

Prompts are drawn from a predefined list, and you can't reuse the same prompt twice.

Avatar

Uploading a profile photo is optional. If you don't upload one, your existing account avatar is used. The maximum file size is 250KB.

Links

Your profile displays links to your portfolio, GitHub, and LinkedIn if you've added them. These links are pulled from your main account settings — they aren't editable from the Talent Profile page. To update them, go to your account settings.

Background

The Background section covers your professional and educational history.

Years of Professional Experience

A range slider from 0 to 5 years. If you set this to 1 or more, you must add at least one work experience entry.

Work Experience

Each work experience entry includes:

  • Role (required)
  • Company (required)
  • Company website (optional, must be a valid URL)
  • Employment type (required) — choose from: full-time, part-time, freelance, contract, internship, apprenticeship, or self-employed
  • Start date (required)
  • End date (optional — leave blank for your current role)
  • Description (required, supports Markdown)

Education History

Each education entry includes:

  • Course (required)
  • School (required)
  • School website (optional, must be a valid URL)
  • Start date (required)
  • End date (optional — leave blank if still studying)
  • Description (required, supports Markdown)

Education entries are optional. There's no minimum or maximum number required.

This section lets you showcase your best Frontend Mentor solutions to recruiters.

Requirements

You must have at least 3 submitted solutions before this section unlocks. If you haven't reached that threshold yet, the section will show a lock screen explaining what's needed.

Selecting Projects

Choose between 3 and 6 solutions from your submitted work. Your full list of solutions is available to browse, with pagination if you have many.

Skills

Your skills are automatically derived from the projects you select. You don't manually enter skills — they're calculated based on the technologies used in your chosen solutions (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and any skill tags from the challenges). Changing your featured projects updates your displayed skills.

Work Preferences

This section tells recruiters what kind of work you're looking for. All fields are required.

Contract Types

Select all arrangements you'd consider:

  • Full-time
  • Part-time
  • Freelance
  • Contract
  • Internship
  • Apprenticeship

Workplace

Select your location preferences:

  • Remote
  • On-site
  • Hybrid

Salary Expectations

Both salary fields are required and denominated in USD:

  • Yearly salary — select a range from a predefined list (e.g. "$50,000 - $60,000", up to "$100,000+")
  • Hourly rate — select a range from a predefined list (e.g. "$50 - $60", up to "$100+")

Activating Your Profile

Once all four sections (Bio, Background, Featured Projects, and Work Preferences) are completed, the availability toggle is enabled. Until then, it remains disabled.

The toggle is a simple on/off switch:

  • On — "Available for work" — your profile is visible to recruiters on the Hiring Platform
  • Off — "Not available for work" — your profile is hidden

Update this as your situation changes to make sure you're only contacted when appropriate.
