A solution to the Typing speed test challenge

Solution retrospective

What are you most proud of, and what would you do differently next time?

I am really proud of how I handled the real-time calculations for Words Per Minute (WPM) and typing accuracy. Building the logic to track individual keystrokes, compare them against the target text, and update the UI instantly without performance lag was a great learning experience. I'm also happy with the clean, distraction-free interface that helps the user focus entirely on the typing task.

What challenges did you encounter, and how did you overcome them?

Next time, I would structure my JavaScript code using a more modular approach (like ES6 modules or Object-Oriented Programming) to separate the state management, timer logic, and UI updates. I would also like to pull the typing text paragraphs from an external API rather than hardcoding them, to provide endless variety for the user.

What specific areas of your project would you like help with?

One of the biggest challenges was handling edge cases with user input, specifically dealing with the "Backspace" key, tracking corrections, and ensuring the timer started exactly on the first keypress rather than on page load. Another challenge was preventing users from pasting text into the input field to cheat the test.
