How to Earn Points
Table of contents
Point values
Points are earned through two main activities on Frontend Mentor:
Feedback marked as helpful
When you provide feedback on another member's solution and they mark it as helpful, you earn +20 points.
This is the primary way to build your Mentor Score and climb the leaderboards. The more helpful feedback you provide, the more points you accumulate.
Submitting solutions
You earn points when you complete a challenge for the first time. Points are based on difficulty:
- Newbie (1): 10 points
- Junior (2): 20 points
- Intermediate (3): 30 points
- Advanced (4): 40 points
- Guru (5): 50 points
Points are only awarded for your first completion of each challenge. Submitting additional solutions to the same challenge does not earn extra points.
Focus on quality feedback
To maximize your point earnings, focus on providing genuinely helpful feedback rather than leaving brief or generic comments. Quality feedback might include:
- Specific suggestions for improving code structure
- Tips on accessibility improvements
- Advice on responsive design techniques
- Recommendations for performance optimization
- Constructive observations about design accuracy
When your feedback truly helps someone improve, they are more likely to mark it as helpful, earning you points.
Consistency matters
Building a strong Mentor Score is not just about occasional bursts of activity. Consistent engagement over time yields better results:
- Regular feedback contributions keep you visible on weekly leaderboards
- Steady participation helps you climb monthly and yearly rankings
- Long-term consistency builds your all-time reputation
Try to set aside time regularly to review and provide feedback on community solutions.
Points accumulate over time
All points you earn contribute to your cumulative totals. Your all-time score represents every point you have ever earned on the platform, while weekly, monthly, and yearly scores reset at the start of each new period.
This means that even small, consistent contributions add up significantly over time. A few helpful comments each week can result in hundreds or thousands of points over the course of a year.
